A grounding, emotionally clarifying audio for moments when conflict escalates but the real issue feels just out of reach. This track gently slows the nervous system and guides listeners beneath surface arguments into the unmet needs, fears, and longings driving the tension.
Ideal for couples who want to pause reactivity and reconnect with what’s actually being felt—without blame or escalation.
[00:00] You're listening to the Still Us™ Audio Series — quiet conversations for couples in hard seasons, created by Tameka Lancaster, therapist and founder of Emotional Blueprint Academy.
[00:14] These aren't therapy sessions. They are guided spaces for when you feel stuck, sad, or overwhelmed — but aren't ready to give up.
[00:23] You don't need to solve anything right now. Just breathe, and let these words hold space for what hasn't been said yet.
[00:33] Whether you're listening together or alone, this is a place for truth without punishment, and connection without pressure.
[00:42] I'm Tameka. Welcome to Emotional Blueprint Academy.
[00:53] This is one of the quiet conversations from the Still Us™ Audio Series. It's designed for the hard moments — especially the ones that make you question what's really going on beneath the argument.
[01:05] Let's slow it down together. Maybe you're in the middle of an argument right now. Or maybe you've just had one. Or maybe you're sitting next to each other in silence — both emotionally sore.
[01:20] You're not sure how it got this intense, or whether it was something that wasn't even that big. But you feel it in your chest.
[01:29] This isn't really about what was said. This is about what's been felt and never named. So let's pause.
[01:39] Right here. Take one slow breath in… and even slower, let it out.
[01:48] Let's do that again. Inhale through your nose… and exhale through your mouth.
[01:56] Let the breath tell your body you're safe to slow down. You're not just fighting about the tone of voice…
[02:09] …or who forgot to follow through on something. You're fighting against the feeling of being misunderstood, or dismissed, or unseen.
[02:19] Or overfunctioning. Overworked. Undervalued. Like you're doing all the emotional work alone. When we don't know how to name what's real…
[02:31] …we find other things to reach for. We point to the laundry room, or the assignments, or the short tone in the car.
[02:40] Because the deeper thing feels too vulnerable to say. So use this space to name it now — quietly, privately, honestly.
[02:53] Pause this audio if you need to, or let it wash over you. No one needs to fix anything.
[03:02] Ask yourself, and each other, softly: are we fighting for connection, or against disappointment?
[03:14] Are we arguing about right and wrong — or because one of us feels unseen? Is this even about the moment…
[03:24] …or is this an old hurt showing up in a new place? What do I actually need right now that I haven't said clearly?
[03:36] Don't answer. Just feel what the question stirs. Maybe it's that you needed reassurance…
[03:46] …or emotional presence, or safety, or one more moment of being heard before the door closed. Maybe you just needed to not feel alone in your attention.
[04:03] Place a hand on your chest, or on your partner's hand if that feels safe. Take one more deep breath.
[04:13] Say this to yourself: "This person is not the enemy. This is the person I want to reconnect with."
[04:22] And if you're ready, say this to them: "What I actually needed in this moment was…"
[04:34] Let that sentence be honest. Let it be clumsy. It doesn't need to be neat. Maybe you're not finished.
[04:42] Just let it come through. And if it's too soon to talk — that's okay. You don't have to solve it now.
[04:53] You can choose not to rupture further. You can say, "Let's pause and come back to this without the heat."
[05:03] "Let's agree we're both hurting, so no one has to win. Let's name the deeper thing next time."
[05:12] Even if it takes a few tries. If nothing else — let your next choice in the conversation be calm. Stand up slowly.
[05:22] Make eye contact. Place a hand on their arm. Say, "I still want to find our way back…"
[05:31] "…even if we don't know how yet." This isn't about who's right. It's about what's real.
[05:39] What's real is that you're still here, and listening. You're choosing to reach instead of retreat.
[05:49] That matters. You don't have to say everything right now. Just say something real — even if it's quiet.
[05:59] Even if it's just one step toward each other again. This conversation may not fix everything…
[06:08] …but it's a start. And sometimes, the repair begins before the words do. If you need to revisit this — do.
[06:17] If you need space, take it. If you need to say something now, let it come through — even softly. For more tools to reconnect with care…
